Ali Husain Castilho, Angelic Caroline

Angelic del Castilho was born and raised in Suriname, a small country in South-America. From an early age on she became involved in Surinamese civil society, participating in all kinds of associations, aiming for the improvement of Surinamese their lives providing improved opportunities for education resulting in improved development.
While serving as Suriname’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Indonesia as in all the positions she held before, she experienced the benefits of access to the Internet. Her career development resulted from crossing virtual borders and accessing knowledge which would not have been available under normal circumstances in a developing country. She constantly aims to increase awareness amongst civil society and policy makers regarding the issues and the importance for developing countries such as Suriname to become more knowledgeable and involved on the issues pertaining to Internet Governance on a global scale.
Angelic has, as an important part of her Internet Governance training, submitted a project to the ministry of the Foreign Affairs of Suriname aiming for improved implementation of Surinamese foreign policy through the use of the Internet. She was one of Diplo Foundations 2011 Emerging Leaders for the Digital World.
She participated in the Regional IGF in Port of Spain, Trinidad in 2011 and became a member of the MAG in May 2013. As MAG member she participated in the preparation for and the execution of the 8th IGF in Bali in 2013. Her conviction that there is an increased need for representatives of developing small nations to be represented at these discussions had grown even stronger. Angelic is a representative of non-IT experts, bringing an irreplaceable experience with Internet and the Internet Governance.
In the future access to information through the internet will increasingly determine development. Angelic strives to have Suriname ,with a special emphasis on woman and girls, constantly involved in discussions dealing with the governance of this crucially important tool.
