Biography
Senator Jean-Marie Bockel has been since 2004 an active member of the French Senate, namely within the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces committee where he was appointed rapporteur on Cyberdefense. He presented his report "Cyberdefence: a global challenge, a national priority" on 18th July 2012 in which he analyses the French national strategy in terms of cyberdefence and proposes different ways to improve the situation at the national level through 50 recommendations divided in ten priorities.
Senator Bockel has had a large experience in the field of internet governance and more specifically cyberdefence not only through his position as a Rapporteur in the French Senate but also during his mandate in the French government in 2007 as Defence Secretary of State. Cyberdefence as a global challenge has been a core centre of interest within his different mandates.
Senator Bockel also holds local mandates in the Alsace region, Haut-Rhin, where he is Municipal Counsellor in Mulhouse, President of the Mulhouse Alsace Agglomeration community.
