Christine Arida

Christine Arida, Strategic Planning Sector Head, NTRA Egypt
Christine Arida is Sector Head for Strategic Planning and Board Member at the National Telecom Regulatory Authority of Egypt. She has 30 years of work experience with the government of Egypt, in the area of Internet development and related public policies. During her work at NTRA, she led the creation of NTRA’s Center of Expertise in 2021 and the Strategic Planning sector in 2020. She also participated in establishing the “DNS Entrepreneurship Center for Africa and the Middle East” in 2014, spearheaded the drafting of Egypt’s National Broadband Plan “eMisr” in 2011 and participated to the launch of Egypt’s IDN ccTLD “dotMasr” in 2010. Prior to NTRA, Ms. Arida worked for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, where she joined the drafting of “Egypt's Telecommunication Master Plan” in 2004 and “Egypt’s Broadband Agenda 2004 – 2007”. Ms. Arida has long years of experience pertaining to Internet governance, where she served as member of the IGF MAG for several years and was member of the host organizing committee for the fourth IGF meeting in 2009, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. She is also co-founder of the Arab IGF and North African IGF, and currently serves as Egypt’s representative to ICANN’s GAC. She is founding and board member of the ISOC Egypt Chapter as well as a founding member of AfriNIC. Ms. Arida started her career at the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center, as part of the team who connected Egypt to the Internet in 1992. She holds a B.Sc. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.
