Biography

Tim Davies works as an independent consultant, and PhD reseacher, looking at the intersection of technologies and social change. His current PhD work is exploring the impacts of Open Government Data on democratic engagement, and the governance issues of open systems of the web. He is currently co-editing a collection for the Journal of Community Informatics exploring grassroots perspectives on open data initiatives. Tim also works on youth engagement and social technology, and e-participation. His work on Youth Work & Social Networking, and on Rethinking Responses of Children and Young People's Online Lives has developed a values and rights-based framework for developing policy and practice around issues of child safety, digital literacy and digital skills with children and young people. Tim also advises AidInfo on the development of digital infrastructures and ecosystems for managing open aid information as part of the International Aid Transparency Initiative, and is a member of the Advisory Council of the UK-based digital rights campaigning organisation Open Rights Group.

Tim has been involved in the Youth Coalition on Internet Governance since IGF09, and has led social media reporting of the event for Diplo Foundation in 2010 and 2011, developing the e-Participation tools at http://igf2011.diplomacy.edu.
