    Round Table - 90 Min

    Description

All efforts are going towards saving our planet Earth. The question that arises here is, are we a day late and a dollar short? Rapid industrialisation post-1800s, in most parts of the world, has been a boon and also a bane for us. The pattern of industrialisation in all parts of the world has more often than not been unsustainable. Industrialisation has caused the depletion of resources, loss of biodiversity, extinction of species, sea level rise, frequent extreme weather events, and global warming, the list is unending. Even though there have been continuous and dedicated efforts with intent towards moving in the direction of a sustainable way of development, this is a fairly recent phenomenon and it might just be too late to go back to a state of normalcy. This year at IGF - Kyoto, we propose to hold a session on whether it is time we should mobilise more resources towards looking for a Planet - B, without affecting our work towards saving our planet Earth. Creating an actionable blueprint for the same and mustering cooperation of all the countries in the world will be a prerequisite to achieving a feat like this. If this initiative comes to light, it will be heavily technology driven and the Internet will play a pivotal role in its success.

The roundtable will have both onsite and online attendees to discuss the topic.

Targets: All kind of life on earth is threatened by the unsustainable way of living of humans. We have damaged the environment for centuries which has had an extensive impact on the health of the planet in general and life on Earth in particular. Efforts towards a sustainable way of development are fairly recent if we compare them to the damage that has been done over centuries. The question that now arises is whether the effort we are putting in will bear any fruits or are these toils futile. A global partnership is required to achieve the goal of looking for a habitable planet other than Earth, with the help of industry, innovation and infrastructure.
