Format description: A sixty minute session will allow for thorough analysis of this complex and multifaceted topic from an experienced panel spanning multiple sectors and industries, while simultaneously ensuring enough time for audience questions. The theater style setup will give the panelists the appropriate space to exchange views and be visible to participants and direct themselves to the entire room.
Frontier technologies are continuously integrating to deliver the next phase of the internet, advancing connection, communication and commerce through digital intermediaries. Understanding these pivotal changes in how users interact with digital services and products is key to developing governance and policy for trustworthy and safe future internet ecosystems. In this session, the World Economic Forum’s Connected Future Initiative will utilize the Forum’s Digital Trust Framework to explore opportunities and risks facing services and applications available through Digital Public Infrastructure as well as embodied and immersive experiences characterizing the next iteration of the internet.

Targets: Ensuring a safe, interoperable and inclusive internet based on human rights principles that builds trust amongst consumers requires good governance that protects a diverse global usership. Good governance for the future internet requires private- public cooperation- the ideal on which the World Economic Forum is founded, mirroring the spirit of SDG17, advocating for global partnerships that are inclusive, innovative and guarantee a whole of society approach. Good governance for the future internet will ensure strong institutions that uphold and respect human rights, promote gender equality, reduce inequalities and are predicated upon literacy and a quality education that promotes digital safety and integrity of systems.
