IEEE@IGF Advancing Technology for an Open Internet

This Open Forum will introduce the IEEE and its mission, which is to advance technology for the benefit of humanity. We will describe how the technical communities of the IEEE work to develop technology solutions to support an open Internet and sustainable development across technology domains and industry sectors. We will discuss how we work with partners on a global scale on issues related to open standards, Internet governance, cybersecurity and privacy. We will also use the forum to introduce the IEEE focus areas of education/capacity building, open standards development and research and conferences, as well as to describe the IEEE regional sections and chapters and how they work on a local level to address and advance technology and develop communities of interest and practice. We will introduce the IEEE Internet Initiative, an effort dedicated to working to connect technology developers with policy experts to help bridge the gap to ensure trustworthy technical solutions.
