Ana serves as Vice-President of the United Nations Commission on Science, Technology, and Development (CSTD) and as the Head of the Internet Governance Office at FCT-FCCN/MECI in Portugal. Previously, she chaired the CSTD in 2024, advocating the multistakeholder approach in her engagements with ECOSOC, G77+China, and Member State Missions in New York. During her tenure, she worked tirelessly to strengthen the role of the CSTD in shaping the Global Digital Compact and preparing for the WSIS+20 review, culminating in her leadership at the 27th Session.
She served as a member of the CSTD Working Groups on "Improvements to the IGF" and "Enhanced Cooperation." Additionally, during her tenure as Director of the Department on Information Society, PT was a donor to the IGF. As a member of the Portuguese delegation, Ana played an important role in the discussions surrounding the WSIS+10, and within the European Commission's High-Level Group on Internet Governance (HLIG), where she continues to serve as Portugal's representative. Furthermore, Ana has represented Portugal at the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN from 2009 to 2019, and again from 2023 to the present.
Throughout her career, Ana's professional achievements earned her recognition as the Portuguese CIO/Public Sector of the Year in 2018 and European Digital Leader 2018 by CIONET. She is deeply passionate about the digital world, emerging technologies, science, technology, and innovation, particularly in their intersection with public policy. With over 30 years of professional experience, Ana is highly dedicated to strategy and diplomacy, especially in the realms of science policy, internet governance, and digital policy processes.
Her involvement in Internet Governance spans several key roles at global, regional and national levels: she served as a MAG Member for the IGF from 2012 to 2015, was a founding member of EuroDIG (since 2009) and the Portuguese initiative of the IGF (2010) and co-founded the Lusophone IGF (2023). Notably, Portugal hosted EuroDIG in 2013 under her active leadership.
