Background/context:

Following the positive experience from the Nairobi IGF meeting (transcript), an orientation session for newcomers has been planned to take place during the afternoon of day 1 at IGF 2012: "New Delegates Briefing Session".

 

Outline:

Part I

  1. Navigating IGF: providing practical hints and inputs on how to navigate the IGF during the meeting (sessions, remote, corridors, etc)
  2. Mapping the IG field: providing quick reflections of the panelists' understanding of Internet governance

Part II

  1. Diplomacy (including WSIS/IGF within the United Nations system, UN protocols, procedures), Internet governance processes and actors (including WCIT, ICANN, etc)
  2. Getting involved: Capacity Building Mechanisms, online/remote participations, national IGF initiatives, preparations for IGF 2013.

 

Format :

This session will be serious, but amusing. It will be creative but also informative. It should be open, but also guided in order to be effective. It will involve newcomers and experts together.
