Biography

*Nnenna Nwakanma* is an FLOSS [1] activist, community organizer [2], development adviser and development consultant [3] originally from Ivory Coast [4] in Africa [5].[1] [6] She is the co-founder of The Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa [7] which she also co-chairs. She was elected as a board member of the Open Source Initiative [8] in April 2007. She also co-founded The Africa Network of Information Society Actors [9], and the African Civil Society for the Information Society [10] [2] [11] which she serves on.[3] [12] She is also a Vice President of the Digital solidarity fund [13]. Previously, she served as the Information Officer for Africa of the Helen Keller Foundation [14].[4] [15] Nwakanma has spoken at numerous conferences on Open Source and Free Software and other topics including O'Reilly's OSCON [16],[5] [17] the Free and Open Source Developers European Meeting [18] (FOSDEM) [6] [19] and Yale University [20]'s Access to Knowledge Conference [21],[7] [22] the The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT,[8] [23] The Open World Forum.[9] [24] In the framework of her Consultancy platform (*http://nnenna.org [25]*) [10] [26] she offers development advisory and consultancy services to governments, development organisations, donors, non-governmental agencies and business. Fluent in English and French and a handful of African languages, originally from Nigeria, having lived in at least 5 different African countries, she normally introduces herself as 'African'.
